FunnyFest Calgary Comedy Festival
May 29 – June 8, 2014
The 14th annual FunnyFest Calgary Comedy Festival features nonstop laughs with over 70 performers including standup comics, variety performers and sketch comedy performers. FunnyFest does it all, from highbrow to lowbrow and everything in between! 11 nights, 11 venues and more than 11,000 punchlines!
Calgary Ukrainian Festival
June 7 – 8, 2014
Acadia Recreation Complex (240 90th Ave. SE)
Experience true hospitality at the fifth annual Calgary Ukrainian Festival. Non-stop entertainment features colourful dancing and folk melodies from across Canada and the Ukraine. Bring your dancing shoes for Saturday night’s “zabava,” an authentic party with a live polka band.
Suncor Energy Stage One Festival
June 13 – 28, 2014
Lunchbox Theatre (160, 115 9th Ave. SE)
Through the Suncor Energy Stage One Festival, Lunchbox Theatre has become Canada’s leading development source and producer of new one-act plays. At the end of each season, Lunchbox Theatre holds a series of staged readings of new works and invites audience members to give feedback during a discussion period.
IGNITE!: Calgary’s Festival for Emerging Artists
June 18 – 21, 2014
Pumphouse Theatre (2140 Pumphouse Ave. SW)
Sage Theatre’s annual IGNITE!: Calgary’s Festival for Emerging Artists features new plays, dance, music, visual art and multidisciplinary endeavors, all created by up-and-coming artists. In total, it engages 10 emerging artists and 20 established artists. The festival also includes a series of panel-style workshops on arts-related issues.
June 18 – 22, 2014
After cancelling last year mid-festival because of the floods, Sled Island is back. The annual independent multi-venue music and arts festival showcases emerging and established local and international talent during a four-day celebration that makes truly revelatory shows more commonplace in Alberta. More than 250 bands, artists and comedians will perform across more than 30 venues.
June 20 – 22, 2014
Hellenic Community Centre (1 Tamarac Cres. SW)
At the annual Greek Festival, the Hellenic Society of Calgary shares their culture through music, dance, wine, food and good friends.
June 27 – July 6, 2014
This festival is 10 days of cycling fun with commuter challenges, photo contests and ride tours that highlight art, food, local history and more.
