3 U.S. Marines among 4 dead in fiery single-car crash on 5 Freeway in Downey

Three of the four victims killed in a fiery single-car crash early Saturday morning on the 5 Freeway in Downey have been identified as United States Marines stationed at Camp Pendleton.  According to a release from the California Highway Patrol, the single vehicle crash involving a 2018 Dodge Charger happened around 2:30 a.m. on the southbound span of the 5 Freeway south of Lakewood Boulevard.  CHP confirmed that the vehicle was on fire when they arrived and that all four occupants of the vehicle were pronounced dead at the scene.  “Preliminary information indicates that the driver lost control of the vehicle at a high rate of speed causing the vehicle to collide with a guardrail and the bridge abutment of the Lemoran Avenue pedestrian overcrossing,” CHP said in a statement. “The force of the impact caused the vehicle to split in two, subsequently ejecting the two rear passengers onto the right shoulder.” The rear end of the car was found approximately ...

A dozen students from California, Hawaii, New Mexico, and Washington have been named as recipients of the California Water Group Awards Scholarship to aid in college tuition.Many of the scholarship recipients are first-generation college students and have had to overcome financial hardships to attend college. “These recipients are truly remarkable students who are already making their mark on the world, and they will undoubtedly inspire others to do the same,” said Martin A. (Morgan Hill Police Department) MORGAN HILL – Four people suffered “significant injuries” in a three-vehicle crash Sunday night in Morgan Hill, police said.The collision was reported around 8:20 p.m. on East Dunne Avenue at Thomas Grade, according to the Morgan Hill Police Department.Police said a Ford Mustang was traveling east when it crashed into a Toyota Venza preparing to turn left onto Thomas Grade. The Venza overturned and slid into the eastbound lane. Woman arrested in recent Oakland homicide where victim died from being shot in the shoulder

OAKLAND — A 41-year-old woman has been arrested and charged with murder in connection with a May 30 homicide where there may be at least two other suspects, police said.Yaeko Payne, whose city of residence wasn’t immediately available, has been charged with murder, assault with a deadly weapon, and possessing a gun as a felon in connection with the death of 49-year-old James Rodriguez. She is being held without bail in Santa Rita Jail in Dublin and has not yet entered a plea, court records show.Police say that Rodriguez, who went by Jaime, met with Payne and two other people a little before midnight on May 30. The meeting took place near 100th Avenue and Pearmain Street in East Oakland and quickly devolved into an argument.Surveillance footage of the shooting shows Rodriguez approaching Payne’s car and falling down backwards, apparently struck by gunfire, almost immediately. Walnut Creek business has window shot out

(KRON) -- A business in Walnut Creek's Walden Center had a window shot out Saturday, video (above) shows. A KRON4 photojournalist confirmed that the business is a BevMo liquor store, located at 2940 North Main Street.WCPD said a BevMo employee flagged down an officer just before 10 p.m. to say that the window had been shattered. A police investigation confirmed that it was broken by a gunshot. Police said no one was injured in the incident. A WCPD investigation is underway.
