Holmes motion to stay out of prison rejected by appellate court

In a one-page order issued Tuesday afternoon, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit denied a motion by convicted Theranos founder and CEO Elizabeth Holmes to stay out of prison while she appeals her conviction for wire fraud. Teen identified after fatal shooting in Vacaville

(KRON) -- The Vacaville Police Department has released the name of the teenager who was fatally shot by another teen on Thursday in Vacaville. Former Apple employee charged with theft of trade secrets Mateo Godinez-Vallejo, 16, of Sacramento was treated for a gunshot wound near the 100 block of Meadows Drive. He was brought to a local hospital where he later died of injuries. Godinez-Vallejo's family has established a GoFundMe to raise money for his funeral and other expenses. Over $8,000 has been raised so far. Detectives learned that a fight had taken place between Godinez-Vallejo and a 17-year-old boy from Vacaville. SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) -- San Francisco Mayor London Breed and SF Board of Supervisors President Aaron Peskin announced a new plan to revitalize the Powell Street corridor between the Cable Car turnaround and Union Square on Tuesday. The plan, which has a price tag of $6 million, intends to reinvigorate the stretch of Powell with capital investments in the promenade and funding to help fill vacant storefronts in the area.The iconic section of Powell has been a tourist attraction for decades and is a "crucial entry corridor" to Union Square, the mayor said in a press release Tuesday. Martinez mercury spill cleanup is complete, officials say

(KRON) -- Officials say the cleanup after a mercury spill in Martinez is complete and the all clear has been given as of Tuesday afternoon, according to Contra Costa Health. "An All Clear has been issued for a hazardous materials incident in Martinez," read a message from Contra Costa County. "The Health Advisory you were notified of at 8:19 p.m. on May 9 has ended. Please feel free to resume your normal activities." Gun aimed at motorists on San Leandro freeway caught on video The cleanup was initiated after a garbage truck picked up contaminated trash from the Martinez Amtrak station and inadvertently spread the materials throughout the area. Officials said a "substantial amount" of mercury was found in the parking lot of the Amtrak station, where it was "illegally dumped" into a trash can. Deputy director of CCH Matt Kaufman said the agency was informed of the spill by local fire officials on May 8. CCH was able to confirm the mercury was in the area nearly three hours later.KR...
