Here are a few Thanksgiving Weekend Events in Calgary to break up the turkeyfest!
1. Disney’s Fanstasia: Live in Concert; Friday, Oct. 10, 7:30 p.m., and Saturday, Oct. 11, 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Presented by the CPO at Jack Singer Concert Hall
Even 74 years after its premiere, The Sorcerer’s Apprentice scene from Fantasia is still the perfect representation of our busy lives. (It still makes me break out in hives.)
Take a break this weekend as the CPO plays some of the famous tunes—The Nutcracker Suite, Claire de Lune and Carnival of the Animals—while snippets from the movie (and Fantasia 2000) play on the big screen.
Tickets ($20 – $90) are available online.
2. Thanksgiving Sunday Supper; Sunday, Oct. 12, 5:00 pm to 10:00 pm at Boxwood Café
Give thanks and celebrate food grown and harvested by local farmers. Details and the menu are available at www.boxwoodcafe.ca. Reservations necessary, 403-265-4006.
3. Heritage Park Thanksgiving; Saturday, Oct. 11 to Monday, Oct. 13 at Heritage Park
The Thanksgiving weekend marks the end of another summer for Heritage Park’s historical village. But, as always, it is going out with a bang. A Thanksgiving meal is served in the Wainwright Hotel dining room (first-come, first-served, 11 a.m. to 3 pm.; $22.95, $14.95 for kids under 12), the first 500 visitors each day will receive a free pancake breakfast (until 10:30 a.m.) and there will be pumpkin-baking demonstrations.
Of course, the steam train and antique midway will also be in operation.
