PARKER, Colo. (KDVR) — Traffic stops in the town of Parker are up more than 50% since last year, and citations are up more than 90%.Public Information Officer Josh Hans said the community had complained about speeding and other traffic issues, so they stepped up their efforts. Watch: Deadly pedestrian crashes are at an all-time high in Colorado ”It’s really making a difference and the community appreciates it,” Hans said. The number of complaints is down, and the number of crashes over the four years is down, he said.“This year I believe we’ve had two fatal auto pedestrian accidents. We’d love for that number to be zero every year. We’d love for crash data to decrease because speed is one of the leading factors in crashes. So, ultimately we just want to keep those numbers down and keep everyone safe,” Hans said.Data from the Parker Police Department shows that officers made 458 traffic stops in August. Those stops resulted in 148 citations, 75 of which were for speeding.“We are pl...Green Line trolley derails after colliding with car near Coolidge Corner

Two people suffered minor injuries and shuttle buses replaced train service Monday after an MBTA Green Line trolley and a car collided in Brookline, officials said. The incident happened on Beacon Street near Saint Paul Street Monday evening and lifted the trolley up and off its tracks. In a later statement, MBTA Transit Police Superintendent Richard Sullivan said the trolley had been headed outbound on the Green Line’s C branch with the right of way “when a passenger vehicle, traveling in the same direction, against the light suddenly turned left into the trolley.”Sullivan said the two reported injuries related to this incident were “minor in nature.” The passenger vehicle operator, Sullivan said, will be cited for a red light violation. The T initially reported 25 minute delays on the Green Line around 7 p.m. between the Coolidge Corner and St. Paul Street stations “due to a train with a pantograph problem near St. Paul St.” The T said it was dispatching s...Orioles postseason tickets are drying up. MLB’s tickets for postseason Orioles games are running out — the official retail site only had a handful of playoffs games still open Monday evening, four days after sales went live. You can still grab tickets from resellers, though they could be pricier. SeatGeek is the MLB’s “official ticket marketplace,” though the main difference between using that website and others, like StubHub or Vivid Seats, is that the others will take a few more clicks. Ticketmaster, the beleaguered admissions giant, had some resale tickets available Monday night but only for the American League Division Series. The MLB site only had tickets for the three wild-card games, all starting at $120. The Orioles could wind up in a wild-card spot if they don’t clinch the AL East title before Sunday, the end of the regular season. If the Orioles take that title, they will not play in the wild-card series next week.Resellers had wild-card tickets for Camden Yards going for less tha...17 Hells Angels members indicted after violent attack in Ocean Beach

SAN DIEGO -- Officials announced grand jury indictments against 17 Hells Angels members accused of a racially-motivated attack in Ocean Beach on June 6.San Diego County District Attorney Summer Stephan said the attack kicked off a large-scale investigation that resulted in the arrest of 17 members and supporters of the Hells Angels in September.“This is one of the largest violent crimes prosecution against Hells Angels in our county and likely our nation," Stephan said. “This is a good day for justice."Officials said members and supporters of the Hells Angels chased and attacked three young Black men, who were 19, 20 and 21 years old, around 7 p.m. on June 6 on Newport Avenue in Ocean Beach.“The Hells Angels are well known to have a despicable streak of racism especially against black people, exemplified by what happened in Ocean Beach earlier this summer," Stephan said. "It's possible that the attack was triggered because one of them dared to talk to one of the girlfriends of these...Coast Guard searching for woman swept into ocean from popular Washington coast beach

RIALTO BEACH, Wash. (AP) — Teams are searching for a 26-year-old woman who was swept into the ocean Monday from a popular beach on the Washington coast, according to the U.S. Coast Guard. The Coast Guard said it received a call at 10:50 a.m. about a woman who was reportedly taken by ocean currents while she was on Rialto Beach near Olympic National Park. The beach is on the Olympic Peninsula northwest of Seattle. The Coast Guard has two helicopters as well as a crew on land searching along with people from the Clallam County Sheriff’s Office, the La Push Tribal Police Department and the national park. The National Weather Service in Seattle had issued a small craft advisory and a gale warning Monday along the coast for strong winds causing hazardous seas.A powerful system was bringing heavy rain, gusty winds, below-average temperatures and a wintry mix at higher elevations to parts of the Northwest, including western Washington and western Oregon, on Monday, the weather service said...Court appointee proposes Alabama congressional districts to provide representation to Black voters

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) — A court-appointed special master on Monday submitted three proposals for new congressional districts in Alabama as federal judges oversee the drawing of new lines to provide greater representation for Black voters. The three proposals all create a second district where Black voters comprise a majority of the voting age population or close to it — something that state lawmakers refused to do when they drew lines this summer. Richard Allen, the court-appointed special master, wrote that all three proposals follow the court’s instruction to create a second district in the state where Black voters have an opportunity to elect a candidate of their choice. A three-judge panel is overseeing the drawing of new lines after ruling that Alabama lawmakers ignored their finding that the state — which is 27% Black — should have more than one district with a substantial percentage of Black voters. Alabama has asked the U.S. Supreme Court to put the redraw on hold as t...Struggling Chargers cornerback J.C. Jackson has arrest warrant issued in Massachusetts

An arrest warrant has been issued for Los Angeles Chargers cornerback J.C. Jackson after he failed to appear for a court hearing on traffic charges in Massachusetts.According to a court docket, Jackson was supposed to appear in Attleboro District Court last Friday related to reckless driving and speeding charges from 2021, when he played for the New England Patriots.Chargers coach Brandon Staley said Monday the team is aware of the matter, but said he didn’t know if the team would take any disciplinary action against Jackson.“It’s a private matter for J.C. and he is working through it,” Staley said.Last December, Jackson was arrested in North Dartmouth, Massachusetts, due to a nonviolent family issue. He was released one day later.Staley said Jackson’s latest legal situation was not related to him being inactive for Sunday’s game against Minnesota.Jackson played in 85 of the 132 Chargers’ defensive snaps in the first two games. The field for the second Republican presidential debate will be smaller than the first.Seven candidates have qualified for Wednesday night’s debate at Ronald Reagan’s presidential library in California, the Republican National Committee said, confirming that former Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson did not make the cut this time.Former President Donald Trump, the early Republican presidential front-runner who skipped the first debate, will also be missing from the stage and will instead hold events in the battleground state of Michigan. To qualify for the second debate, candidates needed at least 3% support in two national polls or 3% in one national poll as well as two polls from four of the early-voting states — Iowa, New Hampshire, Nevada and South Carolina. The White House hopefuls also needed at least 50,000 unique donors, with at least 200 of those coming from 20 states or territories. They also had to sign an RNC pledge promising to support the party’s eventual nom...Cost of living: Pepsi and Coca-Cola absent in meeting with federal industry minister

Canada’s industry minister made a point of calling out Pepsi and Coca-Cola for not sending representatives to a meeting he convened on Monday with manufacturing companies to discuss stabilizing grocery prices.François-Philippe Champagne singled out the two companies when asked by a journalist what the consequences would be if major industry players did not succeed in stopping high inflation. “This morning, (their CEOs) did not attend the meeting,” Champagne said of beverage giants Pepsi and Coca-Cola. “I intend to call on them and I will continue to do so. … I don’t stop,” he told reporters. The Canadian leaders of seven international manufacturing companies, including Nestlé and Kraft Heinz, met with Champagne. He summoned them to answer to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s call earlier this month for Canadian grocers to come up with a plan to stabilize prices by Thanksgiving. If major grocers fail to deliver ideas, Champagne said, “the c...Ontario proposes new way of funding GO Transit stations, spurring nearby development

Ontario’s minister of infrastructure is proposing a new way of funding GO Transit stations that she says will both increase transit service and housing nearby.Kinga Surma says legislation she introduced today would let municipalities fund the design and construction of new GO stations.Municipalities could then recover the costs over time by levying a Station Contribution Fee on development that gets built around the station. The fee would be a voluntary tool for municipalities and they would apply to the province to use it.The government says they would need to show a reduction in development costs to help offset the fee for developers, such as reduced parking requirements or faster approvals. The legislation would also allow the Toronto Transit Commission to enter into cross-boundary service agreements with neighbouring transit agencies.Latest news
