Bears assistant GM mum on whether team would draft Carter LAKE FOREST, Ill. (AP) — While raving about Jalen Carter’s talent, Chicago Bears assistant general manager Ian Cunningham revealed little Tuesday when it comes to whether the team would feel comfortable taking a chance in the draft on the Georgia defensive tackle.“I think the more time you spend around him, the more you realize he’s a good player, but you get to know him more as a person,” Cunningham said. Cunningham said there’s “no denying” Carter’s talent, but will make “the best decision for us and our organization.”The Bears come in with the No. 9 overall pick and no shortage of weaknesses to address after finishing with a league-worst 3-14 record in their first season under general manager Ryan Poles and coach Matt Eberflus. They could use another blocker to protect quarterback Justin Fields. They have a glaring need for an edge rusher after registering a league-low 20 sacks as well as a disruptive force on the interior of their defensive line.Carter was proje...

(AP) — Carolina Panthers coach Frank Reich says he and general manager Scott Fitterer have agreed on which quarterback the team will select with the No. 1 pick in the NFL draft. But Reich says the team won’t announce who that is until Thursday night, when the draft begins. The Panthers are choosing between Alabama’s Bryce Young, Ohio State’s C.J. Stroud, Kentucky’s Will Levis and Florida’s Anthony Richardson in an effort to upgrade a quarterback position that has been in transition for the last five seasons.Fitterer said last week he had waited to ask Reich who he preferred at No. 1 so that nothing would cloud either decision-maker’s judgement. But on Monday Fitterer finally walked into Reich’s office and popped the question on who he prefers — and both agreed on the same QB.“It was kind of like a proposal — and I said yes,” Reich joked Tuesday. “But there is consensus and we are excited.”Young remains the overwhelming favorite to be the first Panthers QB selected No. ...

Israel’s Independence, Memorial Days plagued by divisions JERUSALEM (AP) — The contradictions that make up Israel — its economic and military prowess and its deep divisions and rancorous politics — were on full display Tuesday as the country mourned its fallen soldiers and began celebrating its 75th Independence Day. The jarring transition from Israel’s Memorial Day to its landmark anniversary ceremony, meant to be a stunning display of unity that transcends the usual noise of Israeli politics, came as the country faces one of the gravest crises in its history. The events reflected the troubles of a nation preoccupied not only with its external enemies but with its internal conflicts.A plan by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s far-right government to overhaul the judiciary has stoked widespread discontent and spurred weeks of protests that have brought cities to a standstill. Critics fear the changes would weaken the Supreme Court and erode the country’s democratic character. Netanyahu and his supporters argue the overhaul is...

Colorado ski resorts expecting increase in skiers following storm LOVELAND SKI AREA, Colo. (KDVR) --  Loveland Ski Area started the lifts Tuesday morning with 4 inches of fresh snowfall overnight and more snow on the way. "We could see up to a foot of fresh snow for tomorrow morning," said John Sellers, the Marketing Director Loveland Ski Area. The Pinpoint Weather team is forecasting a snowstorm to blow into Colorado Tuesday and Sellers said they are excited for all the snow. He said Loveland Ski Area's location is a total bonus. "Our elevation helps us a lot. Right here at the base, we are at 10,800 feet, so we can hold snow all season," Sellers said. Despite Colorado often experiencing spring snowstorms, Sellers said the ski area usually sets its closing date for the first week of May. He said there have been only a few seasons when the ski area has stayed open into mid-May. The reason for that closing date is so they can start getting ready for summer projects on the mountain.  Denver weather: Evening rain, snow for Palmer Divide, foothills ...
