FOXBORO — Maybe it had been so long we all forgot.Winning is one hell of a drug. For 10 days, that ugly upset at Pittsburgh cast such a spell it induced visions of a happy ending to this Patriots season. For 10 days, small pockets of the fanbase and media fantasized about the potential of a five-game win streak crossing into the New Year; of a locker room banded together, forged in the fires of doubt and defeat; of Bill Belichick, defiant and determined, scheming upsets of the reigning Super Bowl champions, Broncos and Bills before disemboweling the Jets to prove he deserves another year. Then all of those visions shattered Sunday. The Chiefs choked the Patriots out over the second half of a 27-17 win so painfully Belichick seemed to cry uncle when he punted in the face of a three-possession deficit with nine minutes left and later didn’t bother to take his final timeout. The game reeked of boredom. All of Sunday’s sizzle fizzled once Kansas City took control just minu...Top DeSantis strategist quits PAC

Longtime Republican strategist Jeff Roe resigned from the super political action committee supporting Ron DeSantis’ presidential bid, the latest personnel shakeup in the Florida governor’s operation just weeks before 2024 voting begins.Roe’s departure from the Never Back Down super PAC comes amid a slew of changes at the group, where several high-profile leaders have departed in recent weeks.“I can’t believe it ended this way. I’m so proud to have worked alongside these men and women at NBD 24/7 the past nine months to save the country. Good luck the next 28 days,” Roe said in a statement he posted late Saturday to X, formerly known as Twitter.Scott Wagner, one of DeSantis’ closest allies — a friend from Yale and an attorney in Miami — recently took over Never Back Down. He added to the leadership team Phil Cox, who helped to run DeSantis’ successful 2022 gubernatorial bid.Wagner and Cox don’t get along with Roe, according to two donors. Here’s what you need to know.Halftime: Big plays hard to come by in 7-7 tieThe Bears’ only touchdown drive of the first half Sunday against the Browns was a wild four-play, 1-yard possession that took 2 minutes, 23 seconds off the clock. On a rainy afternoon at Cleveland Browns Stadium, big offensive plays were at that kind of premium as the Bears and Browns went into halftime tied 7-7.Bears quarterback Justin Fields hit tight end Cole Kmet for a 5-yard touchdown pass to cap their strange scoring drive. With a little more than a month to go before the first primary of the 2024 election cycle, polling shows Granite State voters are making up their minds about which Republican they’ll support for the party nomination.A CBS poll of registered voters released Sunday shows that former President Donald Trump continues to dominate the conservative field in both Iowa, where the first caucusing is scheduled to occur on January 15, and New Hampshire, where the first party delegates will be won a week later, on the 23rd.Former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley’s campaign was probably very happy to note her support among Granite Staters has swelled to 29%, just 15 points behind her former boss, and that New Hampshire conservatives view her more favorably than the five remaining viable Republican candidates on the primary ballot.“Donald Trump still leads in New Hampshire, but Nikki Haley has consolidated much of the non-Trump vote and has emerged as the top alternative to him there.
