By Josh Boak, Emily Swanson and Chris Megerian | Associated PressCHICAGO — President Joe Biden made his pitch Wednesday to a skeptical public that the U.S. economy is thriving under what he now touts as “Bidenomics” — even as a new poll showed that could be a hard sell as the foundation for his 2024 reelection campaign. In a major economic speech in Chicago, Biden said his administration’s efforts were sparking recovery after Republican policies had crushed America’s middle class. But the poll said only one in three U.S. adults approve of his economic leadership. That 34% figure is even lower than his overall approval rating of 41%, according to the survey from The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research.Biden’s approval figures have barely moved for the past year and a half, a source of concern for a president pursuing a second term on his ability to govern and focus on workers. TORONTO — Brandon Belt said before this series began that he hoped to homer off Logan Webb, joking that “I just want embarrass his whole family.” The former Giants first baseman sure gave it his best shot, hammering fly balls a combined 739 feet in his first two trips to the plate, but Toronto didn’t need them to leave the ballpark to punch Webb harder than any team this season. The Blue Jays brought nine men to the plate and tagged Webb for five runs in the first inning, putting the Giants into a rare hole that proved too deep to climb out of. Dropping the middle game of their series here, 6-1, the Giants lost for the first time away from Oracle Park since Memorial Day weekend, snapping a San Francisco-era record of 10 straight road wins.“We did what we had to do right there,” Belt said. “Guys like (Webb), if you get on him in the first inning like that, that’s more ideal before he gets locked in.”As for Webb’s perspective: ̶...Woman arrested after breaking into Oakley gym lockers, stealing valuables: police

OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) — New York Yankees outfielder Aaron Judge played catch before Wednesday’s game at Oakland in the AL MVP’s first baseball activity since tearing a ligament in his right big toe on June 3.“There’s a lot of steps we’ve got to take to get back to going on the field,” Judge said. “So this is just another step along the way.”Judge was injured when he slammed into the outfield wall at Dodger Stadium while making a catch.“Definitely good to see him out here walking and playing some catch. Another step on the road back,” Yankees manager Aaron Boone said. “Been slow moving, obviously, but at least we continue to see steady progress.”Boone said Judge’s biggest challenge is getting more comfortable swinging a bat.“Really being able to torque and turn on that back foot and stuff,” Boone said. “When we get to that point where he starts being able to let it go hitting wise, that’ll be a good indicator that now it’s just about getting built up and ready to go.”___AP...Springer sparks 6-hit, 4-double 1st inning and Blue Jays beat Giants 6-1
