The Bruins have a large hole in their leadership group with the losses of Patrice Bergeron, David Krejci and Nick Foligno. It is a good bet that Brad Marchand will replace Bergeron as captain, but he’ll need other people to step up for a team that has seen a lot of turnover.David Pastrnak, seemingly the forever-young little brother of the leadership, will no doubt be asked to take a larger role in that department. While it’s still rare to see Pastrnak without a smile on his face, he’s not exactly the same happy-go-lucky kid he was when he arrived here in 2014. He is a veteran of 592 regular season NHL games and another 77 playoff games. He’s only the second Bruin to hit the 60-goal plateau (Phil Esposito being the other) and he’s about to be paid handsomely for it, with his new eight-year contract that will pay him an average annual value of $11.25 million about it to kick in this season.Pastrnak, who arrived in Boston on Sunday night and participated in ...Ticker: Gas prices climbing again; ABC turns to football amid writers strike

Gas prices in Massachusetts climbed 3 cents in the past week as crude oil moved up and a pair of refineries that serve the Northeast enter a maintenance cycle. The price at the pump in the Bay State hit $3.77 in the most recent survey, up from $3.74 a week ago.“The seasonal slide in gas prices we normally see this time of year hasn’t materialized because crude oil prices are above $90 a barrel and could rise further,” said Mark Schieldrop, Senior Spokesperson for AAA Northeast.“Meanwhile, adding to the local price pressures are overlapping fall maintenance schedules for two refineries critical for the U.S. Northeast market. Major work at Irving Oil’s refinery in Saint John, New Brunswick; and Monroe Energy’s facility in Trainer, Pa., began this week and will continue through November. It’s unusual for two refineries of this size to have simultaneous extended downtime.”ABC turns to football amid writers strikeABC will be airing more “Monday Night Football” games than origi...Boston firefighters union ratifies $27.35 million contract with city

NEW YORK (AP) — Iran’s president on Monday denied his country had sent drones to Russia for use in the war in Ukraine, even as the United States accuses Iran of not only providing the weapons but helping Russia build a plant to manufacture them.“We are against the war in Ukraine,” President Ebrahim Raisi said as he met with media executives on the sidelines of the world’s premier global conference, the high-level leaders’ meeting at the U.N. General Assembly. The Iranian leader spoke just hours after five Americans who had been held in Iranian custody arrived in Qatar, freed in a deal that saw President Joe Biden agree to unlock nearly $6 billion in frozen Iranian assets.Known as a hard-liner, Raisi seemingly sought to strike a diplomatic tone. Sikh leader’s death: Trudeau

OTTAWA — Canada has expelled an Indian diplomat and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is demanding the Indian government co-operate following what Trudeau calls “credible” intelligence linking the government’s agents to the shooting death of a British Columbia Sikh leader. Harjit Singh Nijjar was shot in the parking lot of his gurdwara in Surrey, B.C., on June 18. While Sikh community leaders in Canada have insisted the government of India was involved, police have always said they had no evidence of that. But in a somber address to the House of Commons Monday afternoon, Trudeau said there is credibility to the allegations.“Over the past number of weeks, Canadian security agencies have been actively pursuing credible allegations of a potential link between agents of the government of India and the killing of a Canadian citizen, Hardeep Singh Nijjar,” he said.“Any involvement of a foreign government in the killing of a Canadian citizen on Canadian soil...Latest news
