Phones, TVs, radios to send nationwide alert tomorrow, here's why

On Wednesday, Oct. 4, at approximately 12:20 p.m., two odd-sounding national alerts will go off on all TVs, radios and phones.Just remember: this is only a test. The messages are part of a nationwide test conducted by the Federal Emergency Management Agency and the Federal Communications Commission.The point of these alerts is to test out the Emergency Alert System and Wireless Emergency System.The alert will only last a minute on the radio, television broadcasts, cable systems, satellite radio, television providers and wireline video providers. The message will read:“This is a nationwide test of the Emergency Alert System, issued by the Federal Emergency Management Agency, covering the United States from 14:20 to 14:50 hours ET. But the company that operates the autonomous car says it’s not at fault.San Francisco Fire Department spokesperson Justin Schorr told CNN early Tuesday that the victim has multiple life-threatening injuries.The driverless vehicle was operated by Cruise, a San Francisco-based self-driving car company and subsidiary of General Motors (GM). But the company says another vehicle was to blame for the pedestrian’s injury.“A human-driven vehicle struck a pedestrian while traveling in the lane immediately to the left of a Cruise AV,” said Cruise spokesperson Navideh Forghani in a statement to CNN. “The initial impact was severe and launched the pedestrian directly in front of the AV. (BCN) -- Four men have been charged in connection with a fatal shooting in San Francisco's Lower Haight neighborhood in June, according to prosecutors. The suspects, Jeremiah Fisher, 28, Deniro Gulley, 24, Jamaree Willis, 21, and Chase Goodspeed-Taylor, 25, were indicted on murder and gun charges on Thursday. (BCN) -- The bodies of a man and woman were found in a Fremont waterway Sunday, according to the Alameda County Sheriff's Office.Deputies were called to a riverbed near the 1300 block of Old Canyon Road around 3:15 p.m. on a report of two dead bodies.A man and a woman were retrieved from the water, but no identification for either person was located, the Sheriff's Office said.The cause and manner of their deaths will be determined by the medical examiner and this is an ongoing investigation.Copyright © 2023 Bay City News, Inc.Latest news
