Early in a mid-November work week, the noontime crowd at the spacious Keg and Case Market consisted of six coffee drinkers completing crossword puzzles or scrolling through their phones and laptops by Five Watt Coffee, one of the market’s first and sole remaining vendors. Five men played fervent games of pinball in the aisles outside Starcade, a retro-video game arcade.Otherwise, upwards of 22,000 square feet of commercial space that had reopened on St. Paul’s West Seventh Street to much fanfare in September of 2018 had grown silent — a $10 million gamble weighed down by recent loan foreclosures and what critics have dubbed a fundamental mismatch between its food or retail offerings and the surrounding mixed-income neighborhood.Even longstanding customers have been offput by the market’s lack of international cuisine, affordable, grab-and-go foods or casual gathering space. Its signature brewery, Clutch Brewing Co., will close by the end of December.“If...Gophers AD Mark Coyle stands behind football coach P.J. Fleck

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Gophers Athletics Director Mark Coyle knows this year’s football team has “let some (games) get away from us,” but stinging losses to Northwestern, Illinois and Purdue have not changed his overall view of head coach P.J. Fleck.“I’m absolutely convinced P.J. is the right guy,” Coyle said on the KFAN pregame show Saturday. “Nobody wants to win more than he does.”The Gophers’ two straight losses to the Illini and Boilermakers have dropped them to 5-5 overall, 3-4 in Big Ten play, going into a stiff test against No. 2 Ohio State on Saturday. The U went from first place in the Big Ten West in late October to needing one more win in late November to reach bowl eligibility with six victories. But Coyle said he’s seen how Fleck remains in demand in the broader college football landscape. And turnover among college coaches began to heat up last week with a number of firings across the country, headlined Texas A&M paying a $75 million buyout for Jimbo Fisher.“I know p...Wild see some improvements but suffer shootout loss to Senators in Sweden

STOCKHOLM — There was plenty of time for extracurriculars earlier in the week — and the Wild took advantage of their time abroad, indulging in Swedish cuisine and soaking up the culture in the days leading up to the weekend. But come Saturday, it was time for work, time for the Wild to show off the tweaks and improvements they had made following a disastrous home game against Dallas last week. In their first game since last Sunday, the Wild responded and did just that. But their efforts weren’t enough, falling 2-1 to the Ottawa Senators in a shootout on Saturday afternoon at Avicii Arena in the first of two NHL Global Series games in Sweden.Senators forward Josh Norris was the only player for either team to convert in the shootout, providing the goal that sent the Wild to their fourth-straight loss and their 10th in their past 13 games.
