The state football title games are headed up north.CHSAA is moving the Class 4A and 5A championships from Empower Field to Canvas Stadium in Fort Collins for the next five years, sources told The Post. There is a possibility that the 3A title game could be folded into the agreement at some point, one source said, but for now the deal is for 5A and 4A through the 2027 CHSAA football season. The games have been held in Denver at the stadium now named Empower Field for 17 of the past 18 years, with the only miss coming during the pandemic in 2020. But the contract expired after the 2022 title games. CHSAA commissioner Michael Krueger said in December that the association felt “good and hopeful” about keeping the games in Denver. That has now changed, and the title games will be headed to the CSU campus for the first time.Related ArticlesPreps | Keeler: Caitlin Clark, Angel Reese trash talk isn’t good for women’s sports in Colorado, elsewhere. Opinion: This is just the beginning for Trump

Published Wed, 19 Feb 2025 20:47:50 GMT

Here’s an important thing to remember: This is probably just the beginning. The end is unforeseeable. That’s because the unprecedented indictment of Donald Trump by a New York County grand jury on charges of paying “hush money” to a former porn star is almost certainly the first of several criminal charges he will face. The former president faces potentially far more serious allegations, most stemming from his extra-legal efforts to reverse his 2020 election defeat. They include pressuring Georgia officials to change the state’s outcome, resisting efforts to retrieve illegally possessed classified documents and inciting the insurrection to prevent Congress from ratifying electoral votes. These cases – and any indictments and trials that may flow from them – are likely to dominate the political news for months, freezing the current situation in which Trump is the solid GOP front-runner and the November 2024 outlook remains very much in doubt. That also means that the arguments – and the ...

FDA plans to allow a second updated COVID booster for vulnerable Americans

Published Wed, 19 Feb 2025 20:47:50 GMT

WASHINGTON — The Food and Drug Administration plans to allow older and immunocompromised Americans to get a second updated coronavirus booster shot in the near future, an acknowledgment of the virus’s continuing risks to vulnerable people whose immunity might be sagging months after a previous inoculation.Federal regulators are expected to authorize the additional dose in the next few weeks, according to people familiar with the agency’s planning. Those 65 and older would be able to receive the vaccine free of charge at least four months after their previous updated shot. Those with immune deficiencies would also be eligible.Regulators are expected to authorize the additional dose without explicitly recommending it for those groups, a stance that emphasizes the discretion of patients and their health providers. Dr. Rochelle Walensky, the director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, is expected to sign off on the decision — a customary step in the regulator...

County after hearing concerns from stakeholders.Solis said Monday, she wanted the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors to use its “limited” power to allow the release of some inmates, but will now seek further input on how to improve the proposal.“I introduced the motion as a way to strike a balance with both justice-involved advocates and public safety representatives,” Solis said in a statement. “Since the motion was published, my office has received concerns from a variety of stakeholders — those who feel the motion is not doing enough and those who feel it is doing too much. To that end, I will be referring the motion back to my office so that I can continue to gather input from all stakeholders.”Some of the voices concerned with the motion were those of the Los Angeles Association of Deputy District Attorneys (LAADD), who cal...

Sharks update: Nieto talks trade, prospect has surgery, and are some players’ seasons over?

Published Wed, 19 Feb 2025 20:47:50 GMT

SAN JOSE – Matt Nieto watched last year as Andrew Cogliano raised the Stanley Cup over his head just a few months after he was acquired by the Colorado Avalanche from the San Jose Sharks. Now Nieto wants to experience that same feeling, as he’s fit right back in with an Avalanche team that fully expects to go on another deep playoff run this spring.“That’s the goal for sure,” said Nieto, who also played with the Avalanche from 2016 to 2020. “Right when I got traded here and conversations I had with staff and players, everyone wants to repeat that again. Just watching the work that we do every day, guys are really committed to succeeding and making sure that happens.”Both Nieto and Cogliano were back in San Jose on Tuesday for the first time since they were each traded by the Sharks to Colorado. The Avalanche acquired Cogliano from the Sharks for a draft pick at the trade deadline last year, and picked up Nieto and defenseman Ryan Merkley on Jan. 25 for forward Martin Kaut and d...
