Breast cancer survivors may not need so many mammograms after surgery, UK study suggests

Annual mammograms are recommended indefinitely for breast cancer survivors in many countries, including the U.S., but a large British study finds that less frequent screening is just as good.Yearly screening is meant to monitor whether cancer has come back. All that testing causes anxiety for patients and costs money.Until now, there wasn’t solid evidence for when women could ease back on yearly mammograms, said Janet Dunn of the University of Warwick, who led the study funded by the research arm of the U.K.’s National Health Service.The study showed less frequent mammograms are just as good as a yearly schedule for breast cancer survivors 50 and older.“It’s really all about giving the ladies the all-clear a bit earlier if you can,” Dunn said. A woman was struck and killed early Friday morning in Camp Springs, Maryland.Maryland State Police said it happened around 3 a.m. on the Outer Loop of the Capital Beltway near Allentown Road. DENVER (KDVR) — The Elizabeth School District said three employees who were suspended amid an abuse investigation will not be returning to work. According to the district, the principal, assistant principal and a counselor at Elizabeth Middle School will no longer be employed, pending approval at the Dec. 11 board of education meeting.The employees were placed on administrative leave on Nov. 8. According to a letter sent to parents in November, middle school students made complaints about a teacher that staff members, who are mandatory reporters under Colorado law, were required to report to authorities immediately. Mandatory reporters are required to report possible child abuse or neglect, according to the Colorado Revised Statutes. Miami-Dade Police (MDPD) and Miami-Dade Fire Rescue (MDFR) responded to a distress call regarding a crash involving a vehicle colliding with a structure in the Westchester neighborhood of Southwest Miami-Dade. On Friday, around 8 a.m., MDFR arrived at the scene, near Southwest 92nd Avenue and 21st Terrace, where a vehicle reportedly struck a house, resulting in a call for assistance. Live video footage from the scene showed the severity of the damage: several cars involved in the crash were demolished and the car that appeared to have caused all the damage flipped on its side.Authorities surrounded the overturned vehicle as they appeared to be attempting an extraction.
