The luminous Truvy and her in-home beauty parlor is awash in eye-popping pinks; it’s a local gathering spot where great hair is designed for a fee, advice dished out for free. Laughter, tears and discoveries explode as a faulty boombox adds a little sonic texture in the corner, after a slap to the plastic gets the tunes going again.TheatreWorks Silicon Valley’s production of “Steel Magnolias,” which many remember from the delightfully emotional 1989 film, has plenty going for it, including the six women who make up the quirky and merry band of characters that populate Truvy’s in-home beauty parlor in the quaint, fictional Southern hamlet of Chinquapin, Louisiana. But despite the richness of Robert Harling’s poignant and pleasing text, raising the stakes in this production would serve that text well. Some of the most critical transitions are too clunky, keeping situations mired in inconvenience mode far too long when outright conflict would send these narratives into the stratosphere....Six Flags’ 31-year-old shark exhibit just got a major makeover
