MADRID (AP) — Spain’s acting Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez on Wednesday defended his controversial amnesty deal for Catalonia’s separatists in parliament in a heated debate a day before the Socialist leader seeks the endorsement of the chamber to form a new government.Sánchez has the support of six smaller parties to ensure that he can reach the absolute majority of 176 deputies needed to reestablish his minority coalition government with the left-wing Sumar (Joining Forces) party. The formation of a new government would end a period of political uncertainty since inconclusive national elections on July 23 left a highly fractured parliament. The center-right Popular Party received the most votes in the elections, but it failed to get enough support to form a government in September because of its alliances with the far-right Vox party. The Socialists finished second in the elections with 121 seats in the 350-seat Parliament but now have the support of 179 lawmakers in all.Controversy h...New Jersey drops ‘so help me God’ oath for candidate filings

TRENTON, N.J. (AP) — New Jersey is dropping its requirement that candidates for office sign an oath that includes the words “so help me God” in filing paperwork for their candidacy.NJ.com reported Wednesday that the state Division of Elections is no longer requiring candidates to sign that oath, allowing them to make “a solemn affirmation or declaration” instead. The state was being sued by James Tosone, a 70-year-old northern New Jersey man who said he plans to run for Congress in 2024 as a Libertarian. But as a nontheist, he said, he cannot sign part of the petition including a religious oath.In an Oct. 24 memo to all county clerks in New Jersey, Lauren Zyriek, acting director of the state’s Division of Elections, said the religious oath is no longer required.“In the affirmation or declaration, the words ‘so help me God’ shall be omitted,” the memo reads.Tosone, who lives in Washington Township in Bergen County, dropped his lawsuit against the state this week. These scoring options are finely tuned and ready to reap dividends in Week 11. These are my best bets to find the end zone.___Running BackTONY POLLARD, COWBOYSPollard has been somewhat of a letdown this season fantasy-wise, and there are a number of reasons why that mostly has nothing to do with him as a back, but this is the week we’ve all been waiting for. Dallas plays the run struggling Panthers this week, our absolute best matchup for opposing backs. They’ve allowed 15 TDs to running backs on the season, the most in the league. Helping his case is the fact that Carolina, on the other hand, defends the pass well. They’re a top-10 defense in that regard, so teams are inclined to run against them.RAHEEM MOSTERT, DOLPHINSOur rushing TD (11) leader on the season, Mostert is on a tear, scoring five TDs in his past five games before the Week 10 bye. Rookie De’Von Achane is on his way back this week, but Mostert is still a threat to score when the Dolphins are in the red zone. In Weeks ...No. 17 North Carolina women beat Hampton 62-32
