SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Jordan Poole briefly lost the ball, retrieved it from one fan, then playfully threw a pass back to the sideline to get a few boys from Israel involved in his warmup routine. They absolutely loved it.Seemingly loose and light-hearted, and of course wearing his signature hoodie, Poole smiled as he made the rounds of hellos and hugs during his return to Chase Center on Friday night to face his former team.“Sticking to the plan,” Poole said while hustling back to the locker room after his pregame work before Washington’s matchup with Golden State, “that’s all you can do.”The Warriors traded Poole to the Wizards for Chris Paul on draft day.Golden State coach Steve Kerr, who has long praised Poole’s contributions and maturity during his growth into the professional game, couldn’t wait to see how Poole was received from the fans.“I think it will be a great night. I think Jordan will get a well-deserved reception from our fans that will reflect ho...Happy trails: Volunteers tackle repairs along Mount Vernon Trail

The 18-mile-long Mount Vernon Trail in Virginia has been getting a little work done over the past year, and the people doing it aren’t charging a penny.According to the newsletter of the Friends of the Mount Vernon Trail, volunteers have logged 3,304 hours trimming low-hanging branches, filling potholes, applying fresh paint to mark the trail and smoothing out 288 trail bumps caused by tree routes. The group will kick off 2024 with a New Year’s Day cleanup along the trail at Jones Point Park in Alexandria.Cameron Taylor, who coordinates the volunteers of the Friends of Mount Vernon Trail, explained to WTOP why she joined the group.“You can make a difference in only two hours,” she said.Rather than grumble about the conditions that can make biking or walking segments of the trail a bit tricky, the group’s members enjoy being able to transform trail segments for all users. The National Park Service maintains the Mount Vernon Trail and has partnered with the...Warley, Spears score 12 points each and Florida State edges Winthrop 67=61

AURORA, Colo. (KDVR) — An Aurora woman has been released from the hospital after she was hit by a bullet while sleeping inside her home this week.It happened early Thursday morning in the 900 block of South Joplin Way, where Kendall Heinold said her family was awoken by gunfire. “It was just a really loud noise, and then a lot of pain on my left side,” she said. "My husband was sleeping next to me and he got up and was like, ‘Did you hear that?’ Because it was so loud, and I just looked at him and was like, ‘Babe, call 911, I just got shot.'"Heinold was rushed to the hospital, where doctors found a bullet lodged in her shoulder. Unfounded threat reported at Colorado Supreme Court justice’s home The 27-year-old is 16 weeks pregnant and said doctors decided to leave the bullet in her rather than place her under anesthesia for surgery. Aurora police believe that the bullet may have traveled hundreds of feet in the air over a greenbelt that backs up to the family's home...Letter from France helps Colorado family learn about their WWII hero grandfather

AURORA, Colo. (KDVR) — Brad Kemp, Stacey Reinwald and Shannon Fengler have a lot of their grandfather’s war mementos — a shadow box filled with medals, even a piece of fencing from where Leo Greggs was held prisoner of war by the Germans. But the most valuable reminder of his service randomly arrived in the mail a few months ago.“We got this letter in Aurora, Colorado, that had come from France,” Fengler said. The letter came from a woman in northern France. And the story she outlined on its pages surprised the Aurora siblings.“Didn’t really know the full story until the letter comes,” Reinwald said. Loveland veteran, 100, receives French medal for WWII heroics The author of the letter, Frederique Hazebrouck, said she knew about their grandfather, and how he was shot down in a plane called the Taletha Ann on March 26, 1944, in northern France. How did she know? Her own grandfather, Marcel Bellingier, saw it all happen and rushed to help Greggs, giving him food, first aid and shelte...Latest news
